VOTER IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 2018
For elections held in 2018, pre-registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification or sign an oath of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a ballot. Voters who are not pre-registered – such as voters registering to vote on election day – and voters who have moved precincts will also be required to provide proof of residence. A voter who cannot provide proof of identification may have their identity attested to by another voter registered in the precinct who has an approved form of identification. Starting January 1, 2019, all voters will be required to present an approved form of identification. Proof of identification can generally be met by presenting the voter’s Iowa driver’s license or non-operator ID, passport, military ID, or voter identification card containing the four-digit voter PIN. Registered voters who do not have an Iowa driver’s license, or non-operator ID, were mailed a voter identification card containing a four digit voter PIN.

Pre-registration deadline for persons not currently registered to vote in Jones County closes at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018. Persons wishing to participate in this election who register to vote after October 27, 2018 will be required to provide proof of identification (ie. current and valid photo identification card with an expiration date), AND proof of residency in their voting precinct, when they go to the polls on election day, or when they request an absentee ballot. Other provisions may also apply. Persons not registered to vote by October 27, 2018 should expect a longer processing time at the polls on election day.
ABSENTEE (EARLY) VOTING BEGINS MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2018
In-person absentee (early) voting in the office of the Jones County Auditor is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some extended and Saturday hours (see above), until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2018.

Warning: missing information will delay the issuance of the ballot.
*Ballots requested by fax or email will be mailed to the voter upon receipt of the fax or email if all required information is included, however the voter must still mail the document containing their original signature to the Jones County Auditor. If the original request document is not postmarked by October 27, 2018, and received by November 6, 2018 the voter’s ballot will not be opened or considered for counting.
Important: ballots may not be mailed to persons who are not registered to vote by October 27, 2018. Persons not registered to vote by October 27, 2018 must vote at the polls on election day, or by absentee ballot at the Jones County Auditor’s Office, and will be required to provide proof of residency in their precinct of residence, and proof of identity.

Voted absentee ballots returned by mail MUST be postmarked not later than Monday, November 5, 2018, and then received in the Auditor’s Office not later than noon on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 to be considered for counting. Voters are advised to keep in mind that postal delivery is now two to five days.
