City Candidate Information
The filing period for city election candidates begins on Monday, August 26, 2019 and runs through 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2019. Candidate nomination papers may be obtained from various sources, including the city clerk's office, the county auditor’s office, the county web-site, and the secretary of state’s web-site. All city candidate nomination papers MUST be filed with the office of the County Auditor at the courthouse no later than 5:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2019.

All candidates must file a Nomination Petition containing at least the required number of signatures of eligible electors of the respective city and a notarized Candidate Affidavit, with the County Auditor not later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2019. The form links are included below.
In Jones County, all CITY candidate affidavits should include the following information on the nomination petition form:
Office Sought: ie. (name of city) Mayor, Council At Large, (or Council Ward X applies only to the City of Monticello)
District or Ward: complete only if running for a Ward seat in Monticello
Vacancy: X No (this would be marked yes only if the office sought normally expires in 2022 – marking the vacancy box Yes applies to the Ward 2 council seat in Monticello and one Council At-Large seat in the City of Olin.)
Type and Date of Election: X City on 11/5/2019
Candidate’s Affiliation: Leave this blank. City offices are non-partisan.
All other information requested on the form is specific to the candidate and must be completed.
