County Candidate Filing Information

Filing Period is Monday, March 2, 2020 through Friday, March 20, 2020 at 5 p.m.

in the Jones County Auditor’s Office.

(Due to legislation adopted in 2019 nomination papers for “most” offices are now due in March – even though many offices will not appear on ballots until November -  carefully read the information below.)


Agricultural Extension Council Candidates may file nomination papers

until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

Check back for more information after July 1, 2020 regarding absentee ballot applications.

Ballots will be available beginning Monday, October 5, 2020. Saturday, October 24, 2020 is the last day absentee ballots can be mailed to voters. In-person absentee voting will continue until 5 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020. The Auditor’s Office will be open Saturday, October 24, 2020 and Saturday, October 31, 2020 for absentee voting purposes.

*No more than two Soil & Water Conservation Commissioners shall at any one time be a resident of the same township.

**In addition, there may be township trustee vacancies or township clerk vacancies for the term expiring January 2023. As of November 19, 2019 the following township offices will be listed on the November 2020 ballot as vacancies: Castle Grove Township Clerk, Lovell Township Trustee, and Washington Township Trustee (2) – these positions are currently held by appointment.  Candidates seeking to fill these vacancies must indicate on their affidavit of candidacy that the office they are seeking is to fill a vacancy.
